Yo bro -

Glad you finally escaped from the nurses' grasp of needles and bad hospital food. Live this week up. Monday it's back to the bed for you and hours upon hours of countless boredom. I'll bring you a potato and a fork and you can entertain yourself by tossing it in the air and trying to catch it.

Kevin Finley says:

Kevin, great name! I am praying that you just totally nip this thing in the butt! It has been such a great pleasure getting to know you in the first semester, and I miss walking by your room and seeing you goofballs playing some N64 game. I went to vist your room today, and saw Mike Steck sleeping on the couch and Marcus in your bed. I told them I wish you were there with them. I cannot imagine the fight that comes from within when faced with such a blow, but I do know what the human spirit can accomplish. God has all given us minor details that we see as negative, but only in the end do we truly know why things happen the way they do. It is in my deepest desire that you recover fully, and you come back with your bright and warming smile so I can annhilate you in Mario Kart 64. LOL. I love you, and I pray for your full recovery!

I plan on checking the site out frequently, and whenever you feel up for visitors let me know because i have some time off school in the near future (really basically whenever i want because i have a tendancy to skip fairly often :P) and i would love to visit and hang out, so if you want to send me a time and a place and i'll be there :). My parents also would like to say hello so you know that we finally have access to the updates, and thanks for sending us the address. Anyway i will hopefully talk to ya soon, and in the meantime try not too hit on too many of your nurses haha.

Hi Kevin & Mom,

I've been thinking about you ever since your mom sent the initial email. It's nice that you have a website to see how things are going. Heidi has kept me in the loop, as well. I made chocolate chip cookies today and thought of YOU some more, since we brought you some the last time I baked. Anyway, just a little note to finally say we've been thinking about you a LOT !!! May you find comfort in knowing that you are ALWAYS on our mind and in our prayers as you journey ahead. We will come visit, again, when Heidi is home. I'll even bring treats! (if you'd like)

It's a good thing they keep re-painting the wall in front of your bed so you have something to do. Maybe we should get you a Chia-pet so you can watch the grass grow, too.

Keep yer eye out for new pics from all of this last weekend (Mira's B-day) along with our quick visit with you on Thursday. Hopefully I'll get 'em all up tomorrow. We'll see.

Sweet dreams - don't let the boredom-bugs bite!

You would have to excuse a few of the manure stains from the pasture though. im sure it would look very professional too...i mean does anything unprofessional ever come from your crazy flandii relatives? Hi Kevin, it is soooooooooo great that you get to go home tomorrow even though you have to be hooked up to fluids. But it is better to be home all hooked up and getting tangled in tubes than not being home at all!!!!!!! I also know what it is like when you are in the hospital and want to go home but you can't. And then it is just the most excellent thing when you find out when you get to go home!!!! My favorite thing about coming home was the fact of having home cooked meals, not the nasty hospital food GROSS!!!!! I will write later love from me to all of you love Nic

P.S. Here is a good joke to cheer you up even more:

If it takes 2 guys, 1 hour, to dig a hole 5 feet deep and 5 feet in diameter, how long does it take 1 guy to dig half of a hole???

Answer: There is no such thing as half of a hole!!!

As for food, if you need any or get sick of Barb and Dick's meals, feel free to drop me a line. Corn dogs, frozen pizzas, toast, chunky soup, porn 'n beans, and mac & cheese are my specialties (the toaster oven can only pump out so much, but i find if you start mixing and matching these essentials there are limitless possibilities). I have also decided to join you in a quest for the best stalker 'stache, even though you have a head start. on a cold blistry oct day in 1986,
a life was concieved in the minn stix.
in june 1987 on the 4th to be precise,
a bundle of joy popped like loaded dice.
we named him kevin though - i disremember why,
and our love for him grew as each day passed by.
now at nineteen- almost twenty,
of looks and brains he has plenty.
his determination and strength shine thru each day,
while love and his god lead the way.
a verse called footprints is called to mind,
and while life can be far from kind.
the power of our lord has no bound,
while he carries our life around.
the path we walk may have no reason,
and we must plod along it thru every season.
our family and friends stand by our side,
as we wade through that uneven tide.

It's a shame you can't see my marvelously shorn noggin, but everytime the -800 degree wind chill hits it on the way to work, I think of you, and our crazy striped brother! Lot's of love to you both!

Hey Kevin! I sure hope this second round does the trick, and you can start feeling better soon. I got a taste of hospital life when I had my appendix removed a couple weeks back. That's the biggest news I have from this neck of the woods. I spent most of today hauling manure from the chicken barn. So in a way I guess we are both waiting for brighter days ahead. haha.

Take care, and get well soon, Dustin.

Hi Kev, Barb, Dick -

Praying that you will have the wisdom needed to know the BEST place to be for the harvest! (most people would think that would be in a field somewhere, and at a different time of the year) (tongue-in-cheek SMILE).

Also hope and pray that the nause keeps at bay - especially when you have to go and look over the other facility!

Keep your courage, hopes, and faith high!

Hey there Slim:)

Well, everyone else is telling you to keep your chin up and stay strong. I know you will do these things, cause that is just the type of sport you are, but I know it is hard. So here are some of my favorite day brightners..... I like to use them on test days, or when i should be studying, but instead start to day dream. I dont know if you ever met my half-pet squirrel Petey, but he always makes me laugh. He has got to be the biggest fricken squirrel in Stearns County!! The best part is when he eats all the bird food and mom gets mad and yells at him, but he doesn't move.. just keeps eating! Another favorite of mine is just thinking of beavers! I dont know what it is, but they make you giggle. Or else Scooter, or any dog makes me giggle. (If you haven't noticed, animals get me) Summer, Spring, warm breezes, vacations... our Vagas vaction, and the movie Anchorman never fails to bring cheer. Will Farrel will always yeild humor! Well, I should pretend to be working again so toodles bud, hope I brought at least one smile. And one more thing, I am sick of all the St. John's pride on here, so I am going to get you some real university apparel, and deck you out in REAL Bulldog, UMD, pride. You are getting a t-shirt and maybe a hat. Well, keep up the faith Kev,

Glad you liked the soup. :)

Mira keeps asking why you can't go home - she just can't figure out how sick you'd have to be to have to stay in the hospital sooo long. So sick your hair falls out, I guess. We tell her that you will get to go home soon and that you only have to stay in the hospital when you get angry and start turning green. (Just don't start wearing purple shorts!)

My infiltration is nearly complete as I have a facebook page now. World domination is near - I can feel it. Be my friend so I know that you like me.

How did the hospital field trips go today? Any winners? If they've got a team of topless nurses at one - I'd go with that hospital. Just my advice anyway. Can't have you getting too bored during the transplant and I figure big ol' boobies are much more interesting to watch than drying paint.

And start leaving some comments on the gooberblog, dammit. It's feeling neglected from lack of Rabbit readership. You need to fix that.

I'll call the mothership tomorrow and maybe we can work out breakfast/lunch or something. Depending on this massive storm [read 1/2 inch] that's supposed to hit and/or your release time.

Cheers bro!

I went down to Iowa this weekend to spend some time with Nic, Grace and of course Jamie and Travis. We had a really great time. Nic always keeps me laughing. Grace is growing so fast. She is so darn cute. The only part I don't like is the long drive. I am getting used to it so it didn't seem so bad this trip. I also took my granddaughter Amanda (Carrie's daughter) with for company. She is such a good young lady. It was nice spending time alone with her. Next Tuesday is Carrie's birthday so I will be going down there to spend time with her then too. Was down there a week ago to take Kyleigh and Amanda birthday shopping.

Too many April birthdays!!! Glad Lucas' is in July and Grace's is in November. Of course that leaves Jamie in October and Travis in August.

Have a good weekend.

Kevin,

Glad to hear you are on the upside. Hopefully it continues in this direction. We just started planting the crops on Friday. I tried planting the first field, but got the seed too thin, so I think dad will be doing the rest this year (he won't let me back on the planter)haha. Anyway, I was just wandering, seeing you're doing better, if you would be up for rock picking. We have 20 acres ready for picking, and another 50 should be ready tomorrow, so I'll be expecting you to come out Monday morning. The pay is great, and we serve up free lunch (Blended raw eggs)!

Well, take care, and maybe I'll take a rain check on the rock picking, Dustin.

Hello Kevin, hope all is well with you.

I had a great weekend in Iowa with Nic, Grace, Jamie, and Travis, also Kyleigh. We went down Friday and came back on Monday. We were constantly doing something.

Kyleigh learned how to drive a 4-wheeler and to shoot a BB gun. Nic got her involved in everything. Such fun!!

Nic even had me driving his 4-wheeler. After driving snowmobiles this winter the 4-wheeler was a piece of cake.

I hate to leave when I go there. I would seriously live down there if it wasn't for Carrie and the kids needing me here.

I hope you had a good weekend too.

hey there slick,

Well, finals are finally coming to a close. I actually got kind of lucky in that, of my five classes, I only had one cummulative final---in Econ though!!! I don't know how you could ever like that stuff! Hopefully at this time next week, i will just be able to kick back, relax, and chill as a Sophmore! (technically i will be a Junior, but no one likes a bragger:) Any who, next time I pull through your neighborhood, we are definitely going to throw the baseball around, cause i have a craving to do that. In the mean time, take care, eat right, sleep tight, all that stuff, and oh-- don't forget the chicken noodle soup- always a crowd and health pleaser. Toodles buddy,

Kevin Finley says:

Hey Kevin,

I was reading your Mom's posts and I found an Irish joke that I hope will help you out.

An Irishman wants a job, but the foreman won’t hire him until he passes a little math test.
Here is your first question, the foreman said. "Without using numbers, represent the number 9."
"Without numbers?" The Irishman says, "Dat is easy." And proceeds to draw three trees.

"What’s this?" the boss asks?
"Ave you got no brain? Tree and tree and tree make nine," says the Irishman.
"Fair enough," says the boss. "Here’s your second question. Use the same rules, but this time the number is 99."
The Irishman stares into space for a while, then picks up the picture that he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree. "Ere you go."

The boss scratches his head and says, "How on earth do you get that to represent 99?"
"Each of da trees is dirty now. So, it’s dirty tree, and dirty tree, and dirty tree. Dat is 99."
The boss is getting worried that he’s going to actually have to hire this Irishman, so he says, "All right, last question. Same rules again, but represent the number 100."
The Irishman stares into space some more, then he picks up the picture again and makes a little mark at the base of each tree and says, "Ere you go. One hundred."

The boss looks at the attempt. "You must be nuts if you think that represents a hundred!"
The Irishman leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree and says, "A little dog come along and crap by each tree. So now you got dirty tree and a turd, dirty tree and a turd, and dirty tree and a turd, which makes one hundred."
"So, when do I start?"

HAHA LOL

I have praying for you, and I hope those mean mugging toxins do their job, and do as little harm to you as possible! Stay up homie!

Travis Roney says:

Hi Kevin and all! I can truly say I know what you are going through. It will be hard. The hardest yet probably, but you have so much strength and such a positive outlook that you will make it through. The chemo is the worst. The actual transplant is a snap and then all you have to do is GET BETTER!

I don't have an Irish joke but I do have a transplant hint that will help. During the transplant and for several days/weeks after (at least in our case), there will be a most peculiar smell. I've never smelled anything like it before or since. I won't lie, it's pretty yucky. Kevin won't be able to smell it (Nic didn't, anyway) but everything became saturated with it. It, at that time, was the norm. On transplant days, the hospital kitchen sent up about 12 cut up oranges to combat the smell. The oranges helped a bit but soon "the smell" just became "the smell" with a hint of citrus.

I came up with something that really made a difference...dryer sheets. Boxes of them. Every few days, I'd open a new box and hang the sheets everywhere. They are very potent, clean smelling and you can even switch up the "flavors" for excitement!

I don't mean to make light of the situation. It was, for us , a rough time to say the least. But if I can help, and making that smell go away a little will help, I will.

Know we are thinking of you all of the time and look forward to Kevin feeling better so you all can come down to visit...nothing more exciting than Iowa!

Love, Jamie (and Travis, Nic and Gracie, too!)

P.S. Thanks for the "Korea blanket"! It really means a lot that you gave it to me!

hey kevbo
seein as how we have a bit of ireland on our side we're gonna attempt to help you come up with those irish jokes and see how we can do...so here goes....and all that business with your having to make several trips to the bathroom made this joke come to mind...

theres two Irish brothers, mike and pat, who, like most irish, are heavy drinkers, and spend most their time in the pub (surprise huh)...
anyway, one day at the pub mike says to pat, 'i just finished me annual doctor appointment, and he told me im goin' to be dyin' soon...'
pat looks stunned and says 'thats terrible...is there anyting i can to do help?'
mike thinks about it for a bit, looks at him, and says, 'well there is this one thing....when im gone could ya pour a pint o' guinness over me grave for old times sake?'
pat, lookings somewhat pained, says 'of course, mike, anything i can do'.....he then pauses a moment before asking, 'but...would ya mind if i ran it over me kidneys first?'

thats all i got for now...i'll see if i can find more ....keep your spirits up kev!

Well dang it, I was planning on surprising you with a nice big bag of black pepper, it makes a great gift. I guess that plan is now snuffed...not to bring Barb's hopes down, but I think you still got her in scrabble, too. I am just moving out here, it is kind of a pain. Hope to see you around sju next fall again.

It's sure great to know you have that karate background Kevin...those little beasties don't stand a chance against a black belt! Of course, if you need any backup, my physique alone is very intimidating, so just let me know. Also, there must be an exception in that no fruits/veggies rule to include Idaho spuds! They have amazing nutritional value; in fact I'm surprised they don't have you on a 90% spud diet already. Well, take care and know we're always thinking of you! Sarah & Dave

Certainly sounds like you're in the thick of some pretty yucky stuff... SO if Sarah's Idaho spuds don't work out let me know and I'll send up a jar of Florida beach sand and sun.
