Under the stairs, Leaky!

Thursday, August 30, 2007 - 12:47pm

“Right, into the Red Lodge with you—can’t have you blighting the crops with your feminine taint!”
“Don’t be stupid—I’m not due for another two weeks. And this isn’t the Red Lodge, it’s the cupboard under your stairs!”
“Quiet, Leaky. I’ll be back with some rags.”

Monkey in a Dryer

Tuesday, August 28, 2007 - 10:48am
Here’s another great local discovery:
Monkey in a Dryer

We needed a quick custom T-shirt for a birthday gift and Drea at the above mentioned business came through. Our friend, Jeanie, had her 57th birthday this last Saturday and she had the clever idea to re-make the Heinz 57 label to “Fine 57”. We told her we’d see what we could do. ;) A little illustrator work and some help from the Dryer Monkeys resulted in success.

Check out Monkey in a Dryer’s site. It’s full of hidden surprises and delights. Clearly (although they may not be aware), there’s an affiliation with crumpets. Just check out Mr. Toast from the links page for evidence. The head monkey, DCB, is quite the artist as well. The site’s design and the graphics are worth peeking through. Explore at leisure.

Going back to school.

This Saturday Kevin will be moving back to SJU to get settled in before classes begin next week. He is excited and we are thrilled to see him be able to get back to his normal life. His cell counts are continuing to rise and he has been staying generally healthy over the summer. He will have his 3 month checkup and all the tests again in October. His past few weeks have been busy with medical and dental apts to try to get all the needed things finished before he is back in college. Now it is just a matter of packing and moving!

The Brewer Collection

I’ve touted my friend’s talent before, but I’ll restate my claim. Angelo has some mad skillz and his brand of art-style is right up my alley. He uses clever use of negative space and exquisite extremes of detail to portray scenes from the futuristic story in his head. He somehow manages to capture a form’s essence in a minimal set of lines. The poses and settings giving a mood set off with the colors chosen.

My first print was “The Drunk Artist Contemplates His Life”. A self-portrait of sorts of the artist himself. Although all the art at the first showing I attended was great, this piece spoke to me and I related with it. It came home with me. read more »

Heidi's New Battle

Tuesday, August 21, 2007 - 8:22pm1 comment

Some of you already know that Kevin’s very good friend, Heidi Rensink, found out last week that her frontal lobe brain tumor has returned. Heidi completed her first cancer treatment at the time that Kevin was starting his in 2005 and has been in remission since then. They met when they went to camp Make-A-Dream together in June 2005 and have been very close friends ever since.

The good news is that it seems to be contained in her brain and hasn’t spread to her bone marrow or other organs. The bad news is that she will need brain surgery to try to remove it and then chemo before also needing a stem cell transplant—like Kevin did. Her brain surgery will be this Friday.

I have attached 2 pictures—the first is from this spring when Heidi was an ambassador for Relay for Life in Delano (her home town) and the 2nd is from this July when Kevin and she went to a Twins game through Hope Kids—she is a huge Twins fan. She is a really neat person and has a zest for life that few people obtain. Please keep her in your prayers!

Need Brains...

Monday, August 13, 2007 - 7:11pm

Just for future reference:

Mira was a zombie today. Giving Zombie hugs and such (who knows where that came from.) But — point is, we all know that Zombies need brains.

Brains, braaaiiins, braaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiins…

But Mira’s zombieness goes as follows:

I don’t have a brain, I don’t have a braaaiiin, I don’t have a braaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiin….

And I of course just want to be able to remind her of this when she’s about 16 or so.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Jen and I went out for the first time exactly one year ago. She met me at the Dunn Bros near the manfort so that we could go over details of Mira’s website. We’ve been seeing each other ever since.

Not that it’s been all roses and honey — the 6 month honeymoon phase did end eventually. But now we know our relationship can survive the downs too. And since we’ve gotten the closet skeletons out of the way, each new day is better and better.

Here’s to many more years, sweety. Thanks for being you.

More Simpsons Fun

Tuesday, August 7, 2007 - 2:50pm

I haven’t seen the movie yet, so in the mean time I’ll keep occupying myself with these nifty online caricature generators. This one’s brought to you by Burger King and the Simpsons Movie.

Although the last drawing was pretty good, I think this one is even better. What do you think? I’ve got that Ben Stiller thing going on. But with goober-tats.

35W Bridge Collapse

There’s not much that can be said that hasn’t already been beaten to death by the media, but pictures speak for themselves. Explore the gallery of images below taken from the CBS website. (Click the read more.)

I was on my way home from Home Depot with a few drywall supplies when the announcement came over the radio. I tried to call Jen and like we were later warned, I had a heck of a time trying to get through. On arriving home, we remained glued to the TV straining to recognize any of the vehicles and watching in horror at the scene.

Unlike 9/11, Minneapolis was spared the massive body count. It could have been a lot worse. Had not construction tied up all but two lanes, there would have been three times as many cars dropping to their doom. But even one life lost is still a tragedy. I can’t imagine what someone watching the news must feel after seeing their loved one’s car buried amidst the rubble.

My friends and I have been busy text messaging, emailing and myspace bulletin posting to let each other know we’re ok. It’s scary to think of whom you might know that was on that bridge. So far as I know, everyone I know is accounted for and was not involved. I hope everyone you know was safe at home or away from the bridge, too.

It’s a sad day as we all think of the victims and hope for the best. No doubt we’re all talking with someone about the incident now. Or at least later on break standing at the water cooler. read more »

My camera is fancy and takes cool pics of you and all kinds of stuff. Look for your captured likeness in my gallery and peek at other victims of the camera’s flash.
