Miss Cody has a New Man, His Name is Oscar.

Monday, February 25, 2008 - 4:21pm1 comment

And there it is — the 80th Annual Oscars Results are in.

Best Original Screenplay: Diablo Cody, “Juno

So that’s all I really cared about, haven’t seen any of the other films yet anyway. :P

Way to take Hollywood by storm, Diablo. Looking forward to the next work - it can’t be easy, those are some big shoes to keep filled.

The Rabbit is clear! Others are on the road to recovery.

All is quiet on the western front! Kevin had his 3 month battery of tests yesterday (Thursday). At his afternoon visit with the oncologist, none of the scan results were in yet, but the labs looked good. His ANC is still only 1.6, but that is to be expected with his immune system still rebounding from the transplant.

Dr. Bendel just called a few minutes ago with the results of the scans. The CT was all clear. The PET was still skewed with “brown fat”, despite the Valium and warming blankets prior to the test which should prevent it from showing up on the scan. The only thing this hinders is that where the brown fat shows up, there is the potential that it can hid something since it covers areas making them more difficult to read. The PET did show inflammation in Kevin’s sinus areas which we expected because of the massive sinus infection he battled through the holidays and is still recovering from. The right femur hip bone still shows hot, but less then the scan 3 months ago, which means it certainly isn’t cancer or it would be increased by now, not lessened. No one really knows what is causing this area to show hot, but Dr. Bendel thinks it is just an area also recovering from the trauma of the transplant process and will eventfully not be compromised at all. SO, the beast is conquered!! read more »

They say I've got a disease

Friday, February 22, 2008 - 4:47pm

So this is total ass-ville. I’ve been feeling lousy pretty much since breathing the dusty air of the DECC over New Years. Then I’d feel better, then I’d be sick again — on a two week revolving schedule. One time I went to bed on Sunday and didn’t get out until Wednesday at some point — missed work for a week.

Well those symptoms hit me like a wall again two days ago, so this time I went to the doctor. After 3 hours of waiting and one hour of testing (blood samples, chest x-ray), he told me I have influenza flu and prescribed me with the heavy hitters. The pharmacist said, “Boy, you must really be sick to have all this!” Then I think she formed a cross with two fingers and slowly backed away.

So now I’m on drugs, not really feeling better, but at least the cough is suppressed a bit. I’m so tired and worn out, that I can’t even keep me head up to watch movies.

In support of Hillary Rodham Clinton...

Monday, February 18, 2008 - 12:26pm

A friend sent this to me after a brief discussion of our current candidate support. Admittedly, I’ve been pretty politically ignorant in general and although I’m very sure of whom I don’t want in office come the new year — I have been riding the fence between Obama and Clinton. Please read the following essay by Robin Morgan. Please read all of it. I know that so much text has become daunting to our instant gratification, internet-trained minds — but hold out and force your brain to ponder the message put forth.

Robin’s essay is brilliantly crafted and deserves your attention. It’s not so much to make you jump on the Clinton bandwagon as it is to force you to consider the struggle that still exists in women’s rights. read more »

New things on goobertech!

Thursday, February 14, 2008 - 4:59pm

There’s new stuff to explore.

I’ve finally gotten around to writing a friggin’ bio page. Go ahead read it if you want. Mostly it’s just me bragging about myself and the memories I haven’t destroyed with beer yet.

And even niftier: a Tag Cloud! If you don’t know what that is, look to the lower right of the page and you’ll notice a new block full of random words. Although it’s not complete yet, I’ve been adding tag words to each blog entry as they’re created. Then you can sort them by category. The bigger the word, the more entries in that category. Pretty clever, huh?

I’m still going back through the archives so only entries from the last year or so are included thus far. Go ahead and try it. How about “Sid” — you’ll get all entries written about him !

Happy Hallmark Day

More of these anti-valentines
at Meish.org

Hallelujah! This is the first year in a long time that I don’t have to fart with this ridiculous holiday. :)

I know the ladies like it and that’s why we guys play our part and spend too much on roses and/or chocolate. But really — is there a reason other than blatant capitalism that demands a dozen roses cost about $40-$50 this week and about $10 any other day of the year?

If we’re gonna have made up holidays like my favorite Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 19th), then I’m going to start advocating Steak and a BJ Day on March 14th. Who wants to help me celebrate that?

This creature died from lack of common dignity.

or why there is no Loch Ness Monster…

It is little wonder, then, why this great creature failed to continue its lineage: with no ears, it could not sustain a top hat upon its head, and thereby expired from lack of common dignity.

Guido, Douchebag, or Oompa Loompa? All three, I think.

All kinds of sites are making fun of these New Jersey guys. Apparently, these orangies are taking over the Jersey club scene. Thank Jeebis that’s far away from Minneapolis. One would think that homeland security wouldn’t let these guys on a plane being suspicious that they’re not in fact the same species.

I can’t resist jumping on this wagon — they’re so incredibly ridiculous. Even Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer had better fashion sense. At least they wouldn’t be camouflaged in a pumpkin patch.

It also goes along with the striped shirt phenomenom. Unfortunately we do have that in Minnesota. But at least it makes douchebags easier to spot. If you’re a lady, please read these visual clues below so you know what to avoid. read more »

Spider Pug, Spider Pug...

Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 8:28pm

Okay - so I finally watched the The Simpsons Movie and loved it! Since I just couldn’t resist (it’s so immensely clever), I recreated a scene.

Spider Pug, Spider Pug. Does whatever a spider pug does.

Can he swing from a web? No he can’t. He’s a pug.

Look out! He’s a Spider Pug.

I nominate the Simpsons Movie for most awesome original score in a film ever.

Fez cap for Sid

Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 2:26pm1 comment

Mission complete! As indicated earlier, Sid’s fez cap has finally arrived. And when you put it on him, he shakes his head to remove it loves to wear it! Because it makes him so ultra-swanky, of course.

Here we see him relaxing with a little light reading material.

As you can see, I’ve got the genetic duplicating machine in the basement laboratory in working order. Now I’ll never have enough beer!

Albino Chili Recipe

Tuesday, February 5, 2008 - 7:55pm

Betsy and Angelo have a great tradition of hosting an annual Super Bowl Party that includes lots of food and adult beverages. Part of the fun is there’s always a few chili varieties and guests are invited to bring their own to share. I’ve done this a couple of times and although Angelo’s standard steak chili is always sublime, and Stacy has her award winning vegetarian chili — I like to try weird styles that usually turn out to be a bit of an experiment.

Two years ago I brought green chili (with tomatillos and lots of green chilis). This year I went with white chili, or as I’ve appropriately dubbed it: Albino Chili. :) I found the recipe online and adjusted to what I thought might be better. It still turned out kinda soupy, so I’ve adjusted the following recipe. (The original called for almost twice as much stock.) I learned it’s important to add the cheese just before serving, too — it keeps it from burning. And it’s a lot of cheese! And even more beans — if your tummy is inclined to do gastro-intestinal somersaults over legumes, you’d better steer clear of this one.

Recipe after the jump… read more »

My camera is fancy and takes cool pics of you and all kinds of stuff. Look for your captured likeness in my gallery and peek at other victims of the camera’s flash.
