Home at last!

WE ARE HOME!!! Kevin’s body said enough is enough and decided to up the ante this morning by having an ANC of 1000! That is 500 more then he needed to go home—up from 407 yesterday. His platelets were also up to 70 and his hemoglobin up to 12, so they aren’t anticipating that he’ll need any transfusions after discharge. He will have labs drawn by Option Care on a regular basis to monitor the counts to be sure they stay up. He will need to self inject with Leukine for the next 2 days to further boost the immune system, then it should be off and running on its own! His weight needs some serious divine intervention though. He dropped 15 lbs in the last 3 weeks. 115 lbs on a 5ft 11in frame is just a tad on the slender side. Dick will have to really utilize his culinary skills to put some padding on those bones! His mind and body are pooped. It will take some time for the energy level to rise—but at least he can sleep in his own bed tonight. It is so good to have him home!
