A Report on Spotted Dolphins

June 9th, 2010

Maizie had to do a two week final project for school. Each kid had to pick an animal to research and then write a paper about it. In addition, they each made paper-mache models of their animals and did all their own research. Here is Maizie's report. I like to imagine Richard Attenborough narrating as I read it. :)

Springbrook Nature Center

May 8th, 2010

We took Maizie to the Springbrook Nature Reserve to meet a friend of hers from school and see the native wildlife they have there at feeding time.

Maizie's School Concert

April 22nd, 2010

Maizie's class put on a Spring concert at her school and she had the opening lines. After which the kids sang a medley of songs about what a box can be in your imagination.

Dueling fiddles

April 15th, 2010

Charlie Daniels was on the radio last night and thus inspired a little lyrical modification:

Maizie went to Minnesota, she was looking for a pug to steal.
She was in a bind 'cos she was way behind: she was willin' to make a deal.
When she came across this young pug sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot.
And Maizie jumped upon a hickory stump and said: "Pug let me tell you what:
"I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
"And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.
"Now you play a pretty good fiddle, pug, but give this girl her due:
"I bet a bowl of ham against your soul, 'cos I think I'm better than you."
The pug said: "My name is Sid and it might be a sin,
"But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret, 'cos I'm the best that's ever been."

Sid Pug you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard.
'Cos hells broke loose in 'sota and Maizie deals it hard.
And if you win you get this ham bowl made of gold.
But if you lose, Maizie gets your soul.

Maizie opened up her case and she said: "I'll start this show."
And fire flew from her fingertips as she resined up her bow.
And she pulled the bow across her strings and it made an evil hiss.
Then a band of Barbies joined in and it sounded something like this.
When Maizie finished, Sid Pug said: "Well you're pretty good ol' girl.
"But if you'll sit down in that chair, right there, and let me show you how its done."

Howl at the moon, run pugs, run.
Maizie's in the dog house havin' fun.
Chicken in the ham bowl, pickin' out dough.
"Luis, does your pug bite?"
"No, child, no."

Maizie bowed her head because she knew that she'd been beat.
She laid that bowl of ham on the ground at Sid Pug's feet.
Sid then said: "Maizie just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"I told you once, you wielder of ham, I'm the best that's ever been."

And he played fire on the mount, run pugs, run.
Maizie's in the dog house havin' fun.
Chicken in the ham bowl pickin' out dough.
"Luis, does your pug bite?"
"No, child, no."

Aye, Aye, M'am!

February 24th, 2010

Maizie wrote a play script in school today. It goes like thus:

Narrator: Once there were two pirate twins that thought they were prettier than each other.
Pirate Twin One: I'm prettier than you, sister. And I always will be.
Pirate Twin Two: No! You're not. I'm prettier, and I always will be.
Narrator: All they ever did was fight.
Father: Girls, it's time for supper.
Both Pirate Twins: Ok, Father. Now I'm prettier!
Narrator: And guess what their Father said...
Father: That is enough! You're both are equal in prettiness.
Pirate Twin Two: Thank you, Father.
Narrator: And they never fought again!

- The End -

I took a few liberties in my spelling and grammar corrections, but otherwise I'd say it's a sound tale. :) I imagine in the next act, we may meet the nemesis. Maybe Sid of the Seven Seas.

School Valentines

February 20th, 2010

Maizie made her own valentines for school this year with a kit from Grandma. I'm sure they were enjoyed even with the silly school numbering rules.
